USPA NEWS - Message from Nova Scotia Government, ANNAPOLIS COUNTY: An evacuation is now in place for Hoyt Lake due to wildfires.

West Dalhousie Rd. is closed from 5 km west of Morse Rd … and West Dalhousie Rd. intersection to Trunk 10.

Due to the nature of the fire this can change quickly. Drivers are asked to avoid the area
LONG LAKE FIRE COMPLEX, ANNAPOLIS COUNTY, AUGUST 20, 10 AM: The Long Lake wildfires complex is still out of control and estimated at 3210 hectares. There are still no reports of damage to homes. Crews are still working on dozer guards. Firefighters on scene this morning include 52 Department of Natural Resources, 22 Ontario and 39 local. The four Northwest Territories planes and one contracted helicopter are on the scene this morning. Air resources should be arriving today from Manitoba (planes) and Saskatchewan (helicopters). Ontario firefighters are also arriving this evening. The next update will be this afternoon.

As of 1pm, the Nova Scotia Government reports that the Department of Natural Resources fire crews and partners are continuing to respond to the Long Lake wildfires complex in West Dalhousie, Annapolis County. The Long Lake wildfires complex is still uncontrolled and gaining intensity today. Minimal growth south of Five Finger Lake was observed, although the official size estimate remains 3210 hectares. No reports of damage to homes have been received. CL-415 planes from Alberta, lent by New Brunswick, are being utilized to scoop water from Long Lake and drop it on the Long Lake Fire complex.

By mid afternoon, the Long Lake wildfires complex has maintained its current size and status. This afternoon, the same ground and air resources are being utilized. Crews are making progress with heavy equipment to build dozer guards around the flanks. The focus remains on protecting homes from anticipated wind from Hurricane Erin. Next update this evening.

Long Lake Fire , Annapolis County 7pm fire update: Crews have nearly completed dozer guards around the northern border of the Long Lake wildfires complex to safeguard homes in anticipation of Hurricane Erin's arrival. The fire's size and status remain unchanged. Fortunately, no damage to homes has been reported. The same resources will continue to combat the fire throughout the evening. Three CL215T planes from Alberta, on loan to New Brunswick, executed a swift aerial assault this afternoon. New air resources arrived today, including one AStar350B2 and two 212 helicopters contracted from Saskatchewan, and two CL415 planes lent by Manitoba, which will be stationed at Greenwood. The next update will be provided tomorrow morning.
